Paul McCartney and Wings - Band on the Run

The fourth single from the Wings’ third album, Band on the Run, sold one million copies in 1974 in the United States, where it reached number 1.

The song contains a three-part structure: the first part is a ballad where Paul talks about prison life (“Stuck inside these four walls, sent inside forever…”). The second part has the guitar, drums, and bass becoming more prominent (“If we ever get out of here…”). The third part is “the initial rock part,” which focuses about the band on the run. In an interview, Paul said that when the orchestra arrives bridging the second to the third part, it is like “a hole being blasted in the wall,” which symbolizes the inmates escaping.

The line “If we ever get out of here” is said to have been contributed unintentionally by George Harrison, who said it during on the one of the many Beatles business meetings. The line prompted Paul to use it with his prison break scenario in the second part.
